Court documents filed at Manchester county court seen by the Times show that Sturridge discovered the Netflix account on November 24 and moved out on February 14.

His landlord ensured Sturridge paid outstanding rent up to the end of the yearly agreement by issuing a statutory demand for £67,000 at the county court, which Sturridge paid in July 2019 but days later Sturridge and his partner filed a separate claim for £100,000 for “special damages in respect of the defendants’ discrimination against them and/or harassment of them on the grounds of their race” contrary to the Equality Act.

The landlord has apologized to Sturridge and his partner but the case is still in court.
